After the initial contact was made the therapist will invite you to a free initial conslutation (phone call or online). During this session the therapist will discuss potential approach to your difficulty, answer any questions you might have regarding your treatment and discuss your hopes and expectations of the treatment. The duration and frequency of treatment, the fees, payment methods and cancellation policy will also be agreed during this meeting, ensuring that the treatment is designed to suit your needs and availability.
Sessions typically take place once a week at the same day and time for 50 minutes. At the beginning of your session you will be asked to switch off your mobile phone to create an undisturbed opportunity to relax and be at peace.
Psychotherapy is primarily a talk therapy, however there is no expectation on you to talk about anything that you may not be comfortable to talk about. The clients are welcome to talk freely about what they feel is most relevant for them at the time. The therapist is a trained professional who will listen and will help you to develop a new narrative and a new perspective on your experiences that you discuss in the sessions and this is how the sessions differ from your regular chats with family and friends.
Duration of Treatment
Psychotherapy may be short-term or long-term, depending on the individual needs of the client. The proposed duration of the treatment is agreed upon during the introductory session and this agreement is reviewed frequently by both the therapist and the client, to ensure that the sessions are beneficial and meet client's expectations.
The therapist at Alacris is trained in both, short- and long-term psychotherapy and can provide sessions accordingly to the need of the client.
Please note that Alacris does not provide treatment in on-going addiction. For support with addiction to alcohol or drugs, please visit HSE, for gambling addiction support Problem Gambling.
Referrals
There is no requirement to provide a referral letter to attend sessions at Alacris. Self-referrals are sufficient for most clients.
In cases of other professionals involved in client's overall MDT treatment referrals are welcome.
